Notes - notes.io

Good morning, and happy Friday everyone!

I wanted to take just a few minutes and bring everyone up to speed on Salesforce releases. I apologize if you’ve already been made aware of these, as most of this information will be redundant.

Periodically, Salesforce releases new features and functionality, which are normally grouped together into 2-3 major releases each year. Most of the time, the transition from one release to another is seamless, and end users rarely see or notice anything different. Nevertheless, new features and functionality are put in place of which we may or may not be able to take advantage.

LeadingAge uses the My Domain feature, where the url says “my company” instead of the instance of Salesforce. Per trust.salesforce.com, LeadingAge is on the NA14 instance. This is important to remember because it allows us to see when any planned maintenance will take place, when release upgrades will occur, and if there are any problems with Salesforce, including any messages from the Salesforce Technology Team regarding any outages. (If you’re not familiar with the trust site, I recommend reviewing it when you have a few moments.)

Per the trust site, NA14 is scheduled to be upgraded to the Summer ’14 version of Salesforce on July 18, between 8 and 8:05 PM EDT. This means when we come into work on Monday, July 21, we will have access to all of the Summer ’14 features (assuming they do not interfere with any of the NimbleAMS customizations).

A full review of the Summer ’14 release notes can be found here: (https://leadingage.my.salesforce.com/help/pdfs/en/salesforce_summer14_release_notes.pdf) It’s 331 pages long, and includes an in depth look at all the key release features. I will be reviewing the release notes throughout the next few weeks, when I have the time and availability to do so. Also, with each release comes release exams, which I am required to pass in order to maintain my Salesforce certifications. Lucky me.
Following the review, we can look at any of the new features we may want to utilize and work with them in the sandbox to determine if we want to implement them in production.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns about the release notes.
