Last year I was going to apply to the Geeks exec team, however I determined that I was too busy to fully devote myself to the club. To still involve myself in the club however, I applied to be a community moderator which I am to this day. Now that I'm in second year, I feel like I have more time to help out the club, and I want to involve myself in the things that I love most. Ever since I was young, I've always loved video games, the experiences you receive from them whether it's an amazing story in a singleplayer game, or a funny moment in a multiplayer game with friends are truly unique. I want to become an exec so that I can share this love of games with everyone at McMaster.

Geeks already supplies much of what I look for in a geek cultural club, from gaming events to anime nights, the club really has it all. In my opinion, Geeks should work to encompass all geek related interests at McMaster, for example, if someone were to express interest in a Stars Wars movie night, Geeks should work to gauge interest of the community in order to maybe host said Star Wars move night. This is obviously a very niche example, but the core of the idea is that I believe that as a geek culture club, Geeks should work with the community to fulfill interests of people in the club.

I believe that I can contribute a lot to the Geeks community. I approach my work with gusto, especially when it's related to things that I love with all my heart, like video games. I enjoy helping people in the community, as you might have noticed when I post as a community moderator on the server, and I hope to continue doing this if I become an exec. Organizing more online events would also be a personal goal for me if I were to become an exec. Right now you guys have a whole bunch of in person events, which, don't get me wrong, is a great thing, but I think that the club could benefit with more online events, especially since you guys have an entire discord server that would make them really easy to organize.

One of my first games is a (not so) little known game called Super Mario RPG, a game for the SNES. A great little game where you get to adventure with old friends, like Peach and Bowser, along with new allies, like Geno and Mallow. I played this game when I was maybe 5 years old, so I wasn't very good at it, but I still wanted to do everything I could possibly do in the game. One of the (at the time) lesser known facts was that Super Mario RPG had a secret super hard final boss, so obviously a younger me wanted to take him on. You had to do something really obscure, like buying fireworks for some random girl, who would give you a shiny stone to access him. Anyways, the point of the story is the boss himself. His name was Culex, and as Super Mario RPG was made by SquareSoft (the predecessor to Square Enix), he was based on Final Fantasy final bosses. I thought this guy was SO cool! He had many similarities with a Final Fantasy Boss, complete with a small overworld sprite changing into a huge boss in the actual battle! He had floating crystals all around him! And finally, he had the Final Fantasy 4 boss theme playing during his battle to boot. This guy was really hard, and without any cheat items like the Lazy Shell items, he was nearly impossible. It took me weeks to beat Culex, but when I finally beat him, it was cathartic. Why is this the fondest gaming memory I have? This fight introduced me to the world of Final Fantasy, and a younger me ate that series up. To this day, some of my greatest memories of gaming are from that game series, and I have Super Mario RPG to thank for that.
