Notes

Seeing no one for a long time is hard, maddening even. I know well enough from books, what lies outside, the problem I have is leaving.

I used to see people, all the time even. Back when things were a little more simple. I was young, my earliest memory was a great crowd, I believe I was looking for someone. I know it wasn't one of my maids, and it wasn't one of my brothers or sisters. I pushed through the crowd, the sky was the color of Ms. Eve's hair; gray with an occasional streak of white. A small spattering of raindrops threatened to strengthen into a downpour. As I stumble through the streets, my foot catches on a stone, I have only a moments notice before I fall. I throw up my hands in an attempt to stop my descent, but I am tired, slow and cold. The ground greets me with a brick in the face.

I sit up dazed, I detect a dull throb behind my eyes and a sharper pain in my wrist. I start to get up, but a red hot nail drives itself into my wrist. A shrill cry escapes me, I try to calm my breathing as I peer down at my hand. It lay in my lap at an awkward angle. I curl my fingers, one by one, into a fist. I weakly lift it and the pain hits me again. I relax my arm with difficulty and bite my lip as I let the pain slowly recede. An unexpected tear escaped my eye -no, a raindrop -
