J.L Mackie was a philosopher who was very well known for his Fallacious Solutions. In Mackie’s Fallacious Solutions he proposes four issues and he explain why they will not work. Mackie’s first issue is a response to “good cannot exist without evil” or “evil is necessary as a counterpart to good” in this argument we are talking about good as coming from God himself/herself. God is viewed as omnipotent and omnibenevolent meaning that God is displayed as having no limits.
With this being said about God having no limits and proving Mackie’s first issue being correct we can look at his point about The Inconsistent Triad meaning that when you put three propositions together not all of them can be true at once. Looking at the problem of evil we are displayed with three propositions that come up when one talks about God those being; 1. God is omnipotence, 2. God is omnibenevolence and 3. Evil exists. Going back to “good cannot exist without evil”, if God is Omnipotence and omnibenevolence then we are states that God has no limits. In this quote, it is saying that without evil good cannot exist. If evil has to exist, then that is putting God at a set of limits to what he can and cannot do. Meaning that he cannot be both omnipotence and omnibenevolence, because is he was then evil wouldn’t have to exist in order for there to be good.
