When I went to the Johnson County Museum my personal favorite and what I thought was the best exhibit was the exhibit about the civil war and the impact on Johnson County. This was my favorite for a couple of reasons, first I really liked the layout of this section and how they separated the battles between Kansas and Missouri and had the Kansas section as the color Blue signifying it as a Union state while Missouri was red signifying it as a slave state. I also felt like this section of the museum had the best content, I knew that Kansas becoming a union state was controversial at the time, but I did not know how much the confederate states disliked it. There were multiple different massacres from the time period of 1856-1859 including the Lawrence Massacre where almost 200 union men were killed. I also felt like the captions were very helpful, I felt like the captions had lots of interesting information about the key figures in the Civil War within Johnson County such as John Brown, Preston Brooks, and Thomas Barber. Even though the exhibit was dimly lit, the captions were backlit so they were easier to read and I liked that. Also, the exhibit was really interactive they had touch screens where you can click and view interviews and additional information about the major battles.
