“Ya still in there?”
The nauseating sound of Lilith’s voice echoed eerily as it filled the room, accompanied by the snapping of her ever-present bubblegum and tapping of hard-soled shoes against tile floor.
“Lily, I swear... if you enter my room without knocking one more time, I’m going to clobber you with my lacrosse stick,” said Katherine, who was sitting upright in her swivel chair with a few blankets and towels tossed casually over her head and face. She did not turn to Lilith, instead sitting as still and straight as a pole. Katherine fidgeted in her chair before speaking again, causing several layers of fabric to fall off her head but leaving a considerable amount still on. “Go away. I don’t want you here.”
Lilith snapped her gum, rolled her eyes, then marched over to where Katherine sat. “Sorry, I couldn’t hear your voice with all those blankets covering your mouth,” She drawled, yanking away the multicolored pieces of cloth to reveal a very unkempt and disheveled Katherine underneath. “Mind repeating that?”
Katherine still stubbornly refused to meet Lilith’s eyes and stared straight ahead into the mirror in front of her, saying quietly, “I told you to go away. Now do it, or you get a stick to the head.”
Lilith sighed once, then knelt beside her friend and softened her tone. “You’re still mourning, eh?”
Katherine shook her head. “No,” she mumbled. “Not mourning. Now go away.”
