Antonio is a rich money lender and when his friend, Bassanio asked for money so as to woo Princess Portia, he willingly agrees but as he currently has no money on him, he goes to Venice to borrow money from his most hated person, Shylock. Shylock despises Antonio and said that if he is unable to return the money, Antonio is to give up a pound of his flesh. Shylock's daughter, Jessica, runs away with her lover and Shylock become even more furious. Bassanio goes to meet Princess Portia. She has to abide by her father's will, which is to get the ones who wishes to woo her to choose from a casket, and if the casket has her portrait in it, the one who woos Princess Portia will then take her hand in marriage. Bassanio then chooses the correct casket and marries Princess Portia. When he found out that Antonia would be unable to pay the loan, he goes to Venice to help out. Princess Portia disguises as a lawyer and help win the case. The bond was for Shylock to take only a pound of flesh and no more and if a single drop of blood drips, Shylock's property and life will be lost. At the end, Bassanio was so grateful towards the lawyer and is induced to part the ring he promised to never part. He confesses to Portia but since Portia had said the she was in disguise as a lawyer, Bassanio is thus forgiven.
