Too much like a home. I quickly grabbed my shoes and hurried upstairs.
Since the yelling and toxicity reached its peak sometime last year, I've been slowly and painfully distancing myself. It's been difficult to "remove" myself from feeling good around my parents, but every time I confide in them, they can and will use it against me in a screaming tirade later on. Whenever I seek comfort in them, it just hurts more when they yell later.
Four more years of pain, or at least four more years until I can create a new home for myself in New York City (where we never should have moved from). The move from Manhattan was the premature death knell to my relationship with my parents.
They're almost never home before 8, they're constantly stressed, and I'm stuck in a tiny school district 45 minutes North of Grand Central where good friends, good times, and good extracurriculars are all in short supply.
