Every student is expected to study for quizzes so their knowledge and understanding will be tested. With this, some students prefer to study in school, outside like in cafes, and more likely at home. Sometimes students find it difficult to focus and study for a quiz due to many factors. Because of this, students must set goals, minimize distractions, and find their own studying pattern and style to fully retain and understand information.
Students must set their goals wisely and timely to their personal and school schedules. While it is important to study for class, it's also important to take breaks and spend time with family and friends. For goal setting, a study plan may be one example to effectively distribute the work that is to be done. Next, the student should remain positive and calm even when numerous deadlines. Stress is a big possibility in this situation, though, with good planning and time management, it might not be a big problem. These goals are intended so that the student will stay productive and keep focus at hand.
Another task students must work on is minimizing distractions while studying. Examples of such distractions are social media, television, and many others. These distractions make the student procrastinate and forget the information learned while studying. If the student were to study effectively at home, a quiet place is preferred over a loud one. This is so that he or she could focus and give all the attention to the subject being studied. Aside from this, the student should remain calm and positive so all the information can be retained.
Since all students are different, one must find their own study pattern and study style in order to study efficiently. An example of such is to quiz yourself to test if the student has prepared well. It is known that there are 3 different learning styles which are visual, auditory, and tactile learners. As suggested in an article by Half (2016), these types of learners fit one's own preference, whether they prefer to see, listen, or do a task. Small tasks such as rewriting notes, discussing it with friends, or creating something related to the topic being studied, can help the student remember and better understand the topics.
All that was mentioned are ways in order to make home study more effective and efficient for students. Once all are accomplished, the student is one more step to succeeding in his or her education. Everyone has their own journey in life and school life is one part of it. We must all find our own way and improve ourselves to have a better and happier life.
