The highest poverty rate in the US is in Mississippi with a 20.76%.
I actually looked up the highest poverty rate in the US total and it told me very miniscule percentages of areas in the US, so like southwest, northeast. I think this is really sad because adding that all up to a total what I originally asked for it came out to 45.5% which is sad that our country is trying to hide that and not trying to fix it.
California’s poverty rate has been dropping but in very small amounts and this year has come out to a 14.81%.
Poverty is defined as not having enough income to meet basic needs. This goes beyond just not having enough money for a new vehicle, smartphone, or to take a vacation. Instead, people that live in poverty struggle to keep a roof over their heads, to put food on the table, or to even purchase basic items like clothing, shoes, and hygiene items.
Unemployment all starts with not having proper education, and not having proper education all starts with POVERTY.
The top 10 richest states are New Hampshire, Minnesota, Hawaii, North Dakota, Maryland, Utah, Virginia, Massachusetts, Wyoming, & Vermont.
One organization estimated that in 2015, 13.5% of Americans, 43.1 million lived in poverty.
Nearly a third of the U.S. population in 2016 was in poverty &/or homeless.
African American Poverty Rate: 27.4% (9.0 million people).
White Poverty Rate: 8.7% (17.0 million people).
Hispanic Poverty Rate: 26.6% (-- million people).
About 7 million people in California alone lacked the resources to meet basic needs.
The saddest thing about our country is that we hide the truth
The US doesn’t care about anyone from the ages 6-17 because they only record homelessness statistics from ages 0-5 & still there are 750,000 children from ages 0-5 that are homeless.
On average, poor families with young children have resources that total about two-thirds (67.7%) of the poverty line.

To me poverty is life and it’s just something that you have to go through everyday. To others, it’s gross, and not something they want their kids around. But in reality it’s sad, most kids don’t notice what’s wrong. I think the first step we can take into digging up poverty is school programs. Things like clothing drives, food drives, and even bake sales every week can help these families. But what I really wanted as a child was help without asking, pretty much in the place of a father or mother figure, and I needed somebody I trusted. At school, there's not a lot of people that you can trust, especially when you’re poor. Other kids look at you and your ripped shoes, jeans, & stained shirt with disgust, and move on. This is something all homeless children go through all the time, and I think with help from the state & from the unified school districts we can help, a lot more than the privileged even know.
