Okay so Michael and reader are in love but they're bitch babies and and won't admit it to eachother so this is the scene where they almost do and then don't bc I love that angst setting: His roof, looking at the stars

action

You look at the stars and then at Michael, "You ever just wanna get away?"

"What do you mean?" He gives you a confused look. You throw your glance back up to the star-ridden sky. There's so many of them. The pale moonlight only makes the scenery more beautiful

"Like. Run away from everything and everyone? Not really dying, but just being weightless???" He puts his hand up to his chin and thinks.

"Like getting away from your responsibilities and problems?" You shake your head.

"Yeah, but more than that?? Just kind of going anywhere else but here? Leaving yourself behind for a bit and focusing on elsewhere?"

"Ohhhh, wanting to basically become a disembodied soul and travelling the cosmos?" You laugh and confirm.

"Just like that." You look at him again and smile.

"I just wanna go everywhere and observe everything. Different cultures, different climates, sceneries, people, and everything else that's different."

"I get that, where would you go though? You've always hated the heat." He chuckles.

"Moving here was nice and a lot better than Texas, but I haven't been to the beach since I was 12, so I wanna go there again."

"There's a beach here, and it's not across the country." You snort a little. He just laughs a little more. And then you sigh.

"Yeah but, Jeremy's acting like we don't exist, I don't have a car, and I know you don't have enough gas money to make it there and back, so I'm stuck here."

"Well, we can go some day. Doesn't have to be today, we have our whole lives ahead of us." He dodges your Jeremy remark, but you don't really mind; it hurt even mentioning him.

"I guess I'd like to go everywhere. Just travel the world, ya know."

"That doesn't sound too bad." You focus your gaze on him. God, he's so amazing!!!!!

"You'd be chill traveling with me, right?" You sit up and he does too, scooting a little closer to you.

"I'd travel anywhere," There's a tension that wasn't there before. "As long as it was with you, y/n." There's something in his eyes, there's something in your eyes, and your feelings for him are suddenly amplified sevenfold.

"Michael....." Your faces move closer and closer, until you're only a few inches away from eachother. His eyes are staring into your soul, this is the closest you've ever been to him, and you want to kiss him.

'Just do it, he wants to!' You close your eyes.

'Come on, this is what you've been dreaming of for 2 whole years!!!!!!' You can do this. Your hand interlaces with his.

'You can do this!!! You're so close, you just have to move a little closer!!!' Tension rises, your stomach starts filling up with dread, you realize what you're about to do and you're scared, and tears fall down your face as you push him away.

"Y/n? A-Are you okay???" No, you're not.

"I'm really sorry, Michael. It's so late and my parents will kill me if I don't come home right now!!!! I'm sorry!!!" This is half true, but you couldn't care less about your curfew. He looks down and rubs his arm.

"O-Oh, okay. I can drive you home if you w-"

"I'll be alright walking, I just need to go."

"Are you sure??? It's dangerous." You wipe your face and hope it's dark enough that he won't see your tears.

"I-I'll be fine, Mikey, I'll see you in school, goodnight." You stand up and quickly make your way off of the roof, earning some cuts and scrapes on your way. Once you're safely on the ground, you look up to the roof one last time. He waves and you start your powerwalk home, crying once no one is watching you.

You were so close, but you just had to sabotage it for yourself.
