advantages : saves time and labour , better than poor cooking and faster , fewer , easier clean up
disadvantages : does not include enough portions of fruits and vegetables , may not make up enough servings from the food pyramid , usually contains high percentage of sodium and fat
what can be done : eat it with fresh fruits and vegetables , read nutrition information before choosing to buy convenience food
purchasing convenience food : always check the expiry date , ensure that the packaging is not bulging , dented or rusty
storing convenience food : store canned food in a cool , dry and dark place as moisture will cause the can to rust , store frozen food at -18 degrees celsius , packet mixes and ready to eat and cook food are best kept in the refrigerator and used as quickly as possible , store dehydrated food in clean and dry airtight containers

fast food restaurants : easily prepared processed food severed in restaurants as a quick meal or to be taken away
advantages : affordable , easily available , tasty , can choose healthier option
disadvantages : high in fat , high in sugar , low in vegetables , unbalanced meal
what can be done : ask for unsalted fries to cut down sodium , do not upsize the meal [upsized meal means higher calories , fats , sugar and salt] , do not use sauces as its high in sodium [ketchup and chilli] , ask for baked potatoes instead of french fries and choose frozen yogurt instead of ice cream
