Specific Purpose: To simulate how cholesterol builds up in an artery
Central Idea: Cholesterol is not the source problem for CVDs.
INTRO:
Hyperlipidemia is actually a sign that there is significant inflammation in the body. I will demonstrate a simulation of an arterial inflammation, and how the body reacts to it.
BODY:
1. Your body detects the need to counter that inflammation.
A. Your body either synthesises a surplus of cholesterol in the liver or simply gets it from your diet.
B. A protein envelope transports the cholesterol to the site of inflammation.
2. At the site of inflammation,
A. Lesions have been created in the arterial wall by the cause of that inflammation.
Cause of inflammation could be: alcohol molecules, toxins, free radicals, etc.
B. Cholesterol molecules are delivered, and seep into the wall in an attempt to capture the cause of inflammation.
3. A protein envelope carries the soiled cholesterol back to the liver.
