I am contacting you in relation to information you have sent me in my tax code notices for the years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. I wish to query an estimated tax amount owing for #227.40 in 2018-2019 and subsequent intention to recaim this amount in the current tax year.
In the tax code notice for 2018-19 the amount appears as estimated tax owed (highlighted on enclosed copy).
In the tax code notice for 2019-2020 my tax code has been adjusted to reclaim monies owed (copy enclosed)
I have spoken with your officer Abbie Jane Law on 20th May 2019 and been informed that the claw back is related to my claiming Marriage Tax Allowance in the year 2018-2019.
My wife Judith Ann Sellars passed away in February 2019. My understanding is that I am entitled to claim marraige tax allowance until the end of the financial year in which the death occurred i.e. April 2019. However it would appear that HMRC have an incorrect date of death for my wife and this has led to the underpayment.
To clarify matters I have enclosed a primary death certificate showning that my wife died on 16th February 2019 as requested by HMRC.
I hope that you will now be able to resovle this matter on my behalf. I have been informed by Ms Law that my documents will be returned by registered post. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
