For background, this annotation is annotating when Aech said she needed to make a white male avatar to have the same opportunities. This unique annotation provides unique insight to elements of the story such as theme. My understanding was that tech had advanced, so surely their problems got better too. Also that the only problem in society was the ignorance of the ill-fated planet they live on. This annotation changed my view of a pretty much perfect society, besides the IOI, to one without priorities. I say this because they don’t fix a problem from the 1800s like equality or pollution, but instead fix computers. This annotation has changed my view of Ready Player One because it provided unique insight on a story element such as the setting.
A critical thinking question that I formed was how has Wade’s perspective changed, what made it change, and why does he not want to be in the OASIS? This question was necessary to facilitate a coherent, pertinent discussion because it allowed us to gather our knowledge of the novel and see the development of Wade’s perspective throughout the novel. One point that I discussed was that Wade’s perspective was when he gave his friends help. This can be found on page… This showed Wade going from selfish and only wanting to benefit himself, to selfless and trying to benefit others and the guilt of being a bad friend led him to change. This discussion over this question further led us to find the climax and other other quality discussion points on Wade’s changing perspective. Without this critical thinking question, we wouldn’t have had a discussion on the same level of pertinence.
