რუსეთის იმპერატორმა, პეტრე I-მა, რომელიც ბევრს უყვარდა და ღვთისგან დალოცვილი იყო, ვახტანგს მისწერა, რომ მზად იყო იმპერატორი ვახტანგის დაცვისა და მის გვერდით დადგომისთვის, ისიც დაამატა მან წერილში, რომ თუ ვახტანგი მის მხარეს დაიჭერდა, მის მტერს ყველაფრისთვის აზღვევინებდა. წერილის წაკითხვა ვახტანგს ძლიერ ესიამოვნა.
