Hey guys Sethly here back with another apex legends video, I hope your all having a fantastic day. In this video we are going to be covering everything we know about flyers. So as you guys probably know, yesterday, right when season 1 ended, flyers started showing up across Kings Canyon carrying deathboxes full of loot. While we did get a new announcement yesterday about season 2 update details we didn't get any official statement on flyers or why they are on the map. So I decided to learn everything I could about flyers to give you guys some more details on what they are, how they work, and what we can expect from them in the future. I did a lot of research, tested a lot of things out in game and figured out a bunch of stuff as well as I contacted my dataminer friend and read some reddit posts on flyers that developers replied too so I could gather everything that we know so I could tell you guys. Ill make sure to link all the sources I found information from down in the description below. First off, Im going to be covering flyers in 4 different parts, the lore and history behind them, everything respawn has officially shown that references flyers, all the in game details about how they work, and all of the leaks we currently have. Ill make sure to show the time stamps of each part on screen, but lets get right into it.
Starting off with the lore and history of flyers.
Flyers are large, reptilian creatures that inhabit many planets across The Frontier within the universe of Titanfall. They are around the same size as titans and possess six limbs. Four of these limbs are wings that allow the creature to fly through the air at great heights and speeds. The creatures also possess large tusks on their head just below the mouth. They can be often seen trailing and soaring around the creatures known as Leviathans, latching onto them and acting as parasites.
In titanfall, Flyers are vicious enough that they have no qualms about engaging fully armed squads of infantry and carrying away entire humans, ripping apart advanced IMC aircraft and even ripping through armoured vehicles
On Typhon (and presumably Leviathan, the home planet of leviathans), Flyers are also known to prey on Prowlers, though are not seen engaging active forces.
Flyers can be seen on the Titanfall maps Boneyard, Airbase, and the DLC map Swampland. On Boneyard they can be seen being perched at various locations and will sometimes plunge to the ground and consume Grunts and Spectres, and 3 may grab a dropship and tear it apart. On Swampland they can be seen in the open part of the map, but they are often scared away by the Tower nearby.
In Titanfall 2, Flyers can be seen largely as background scenery in the mission Effect and Cause. They do not attack the player, but can be killed.
So thats all the lore and history we have for flyers, next lets go over every time respawn has officially mentioned and shown flyers.
At the end of the EA play livestream they showed a teaser of leviathans and flyers entering the map but they didn't say anything about it, but to be on the lookout for an in game map event.
Flyers were also shown in the season 1 trailer and you can clearly see there are swarms of multiple flyers that seem to be attracted to an air drop that lands.
In the tweet that they released today that had the Season 2 Weapon Update details, they started by saying "Eyes on the skies, Legends - it's time to catch a shooting STAR." Clearly they were hinting towards flyers in the map when they told us to keep our eyes on the skies.
A respawn dev has also replied to a few posts on reddit about the flyers. On a reddit post that showed the flyer deathboxes with dev names on them, a developer replied to a comment where someone said they had already known about this stuff through datamining and the developer replied "Please no leaks :)" most likely because he wants all the new features coming to be a surprise. He also replied to another reply on a different reddit post that listed details about flyers. Someone said "Maybe next time you could make the explainer post yourself so we don't have to guess what's changed" and the developer replied "When it's appropriate, of course! Expect to see something like that for Ranked. When it's teases like this however, we clearly don't want to spell out all our changes." So we do know that they are purposely not mentioning flyers in official announcements or patches so they can tease future changes.
Lets get on to all the info about how flyers work in game.
They spawn randomly around the map at the beginning of the game and they can spawn in any place on the map at random, even around repulsor which is supposed to keep them away so it seems that the repulsor tower isn't working.
Im not sure how many there are in total in each game but I have seen three right next to each other so the amount of flyers is likely randomized as well as the location they spawn in, so there is a chance many flyers will spawn in the same area of the map.
As far as I can tell, flyers have 250 health but I don't know for sure that its exactly 250 but it is definitely around 250 health.
After they spawn they fly around in a circular motion but when shot or if you get too close to them they fly upwards into the sky and disappear.
Also, its good to know that flyers sometimes make a loud screeching noise that can easily give away their location so definitely keep your ears sharp so you can hear them.
Currently, all of the flyers carry death boxes that they spawn with and the boxes can have blue, purple and on rare occasions gold loot in them, but sadly I haven't been lucky enough to see a gold one yet. Also a lot of people were sking me if they pick up deathboxes from someone who died in game and sadly they don't and the loot is all predetermined so they spawn with the death boxes at the beginning of the match.
The loot is pretty random, however there were leaked loot tables found in the files so Ill show those on screen and as you can see there is a random chance for them to have blue purple and gold deathboxes that have randomized loot in them. From the lists in the files, you can see all the different types of items that could be in the boxes. You also can get lower tier items in higher tier boxes, for example you can find common items in a blue deathbox dropped by a flyer. You can also get different types of ammo and weapons.
If you shoot the flyers and hit them they start to fly upwards to get away, even if you only hit them once but if you shoot them again or do enough damage or kill them then they will drop the loot.
But there is a good way to make them drop the boxes faster. So after you first hit the flyer with one bullet, if you stop and wait a few seconds for it to start flying away and then you shoot them once again then they will immediatly drop the box. So you don't have to waste your ammo on them and give away your location to enemies, instead you can just use two bullets but you have to wait a few seconds in between your first and second hit because they won't immediatly drop the box if you spam them with bullets.
When the deathbox drops it will have a nametag and banner of someone from your friends list but if you don't have any friends then it will show the gamertag of a random developer. FrozenFroh tried this out and he showed that it actually does show the gamertag of random developers that work on apex.
Right when the flyer lets go of the deathbox there is a bright flash animation that is released off the deathbox so you can stop shooting them when you see that so you don't actually have to kill them to get loot.
If you scare a flyer and it start flying away and you don't kill them or shoot at them enough to drop the deathbox then they will just continue flying and disappear into the sky. As far as I can tell, they don't come back down later in the game after they fly off into the sky. So if they fly into the sky and disappear before you make them drop the loot then the loot is gone forever.
The first thing I tried when I saw a flyer was grappling on to it, sadly I wasn't recording but you can grapple flyers you just can't land on them or jump on top of them even if you use a jump tower to redeploy onto them, you will just bounce off and they will get scared and fly away.
Also, if you were wondering, no flyers do not attack players but their is a possibility of that in the future.
On to the last section, which is all of the leaked info that has been found. Most of the leaks were from my boy @That1MiningGuy on twitter but there are a few details from some other dataminers, as always links in description.
The first thing is the leaked loot tables for flyers that I showed earlier in the video. The next leak is about how there are two different types of flyers, the normal flyer that carries deathboxes and is in game right now, and a caged flyer which isnt in the game yet. We don't know for sure what the caged flyer will be but it is most likely exactly what it says. A flyer in a cage.
There are also four different types of models for flyers in the files, The first two models are a 1000x model and a 500x model. Which are probably refering to the size of flyers, meaning there is a small and larger version of flyers but we don't know if they will act the same way or one size will act different from the other. My guess is that the flyers in game right now are the small ones and we will see the larger ones in the near future. The third model is a static model, meaning it doesn't move, which is likely for the caged flyers. The fourth model is a model for a swarm of flyers that are likely attracted to supply ships and airdrops similar to how we saw a swarm of flyers being attracted to an air drop in the Season 1 trailer.
There are also files that suggest that flyers can be in two different stats, a cautious state and an angry state. But we don't know if they will attack players in the angry state.
The last leak we have is that there are handlers in the files that suggest that they can attack supply ships but nothing suggests that they attack players directly.
So thats pretty much everything we know about flyers as of right now, obviously I could of missed some things but I think I covered everything thats important.
