It is what makes up MATTER - everything is made of matter.
Atom is made up of three types of partials.
SUBATOMIC particles: Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons.
Protons and neutrons make up the center of the atom = nucleus
Electrons fly around the nucleus.
Electrons carry a negative charge.
Protons carry a positive charge.
In a (NEUTRAL) atom protons and electrons are equal. Often Neutrons are the same too.
The negative electrons are attracted to the positive nucleus. (same electrical force as a magnet.) that is what keeps the atom together.

Molecule is a term used to describe any atom. - any combination
All compounds are molecules.
Hydrogen gas (H2) is a molecule, but not a compound because it is only one element. But (H20) water can be called a molecule or a compound due to multiple elements and atoms.
