Bahasa Jepang terbagi 3 macam, yaitu:
1. Kana
2. Kanji
3. Romaji
Pertama, Kana adalah huruf Jepang itu sendiri yang mewakili setiap suku kata
Contoh:
あ い う え お (a i u e o)
Kana sendiri dibagi 2 lagi menjadi: hiragana dan katakana
• Hiragana adalah jenis kana yang umumnya dipakai untuk bahasa sehari-hari di Jepang.
Contoh:
ねこ (neko / kucing)
かばん (kaban / tas)
• Katakana adalah jenis kana yang biasanya dipakai untuk mengungkapkan kata serapan.
Contoh:
ボールペン (bōrupen / bolpoin)
ベッド (beddo / tempat tidur)
Perlu diketahui dalam kana juga ada beberapa komponen lain seperti:
1. Go~juon (五十音) : 50 Kana dasar
2. Han / dakuten (半/濁点) : tanda tambahan Kana
3. Yo~on (拗音) : kumpulan huruf diftong
Di Jepang, jarang sekali menggunakan kata "di", "du", "ja" dan beberapa kata lainnya, mereka menggunakan diftong yang dinamakan yo~on (拗音)
Yo~on biasanya menggunakan seluruh suku kata bervokalkan -i ditambah YaYuYo kecil.
Sedangkan untuk suku kata tertentu seperti GaGiGu, ZaJiZu, BaBiBu, dan DaDjiDzu menggunakan dakuten ( ゛- 濁点)
Dan untuk PaPiPuPePo menggunakan handakuten ( ゜- 半濁点)
Berikutnya, Romaji. Ro~maji𝗠(ローマ字) diambil dari kata ローマ (ro~ma) yang berarti Roma/Romawi, dan 字 (ji) yang berarti tulisan, adalah tulisan yang digunakan untuk umat awam mebaca huruf Jepang dengan huruf Romawi.
