the book the old man and the sea starts by,
He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four
days now without taking a fish. This all by itself describes the topic a man can be destroyed but not defeated as he continued to fight. The topic has quite a light meaning that a man may face many problems and become totally drained of all power. Even then he will continue to fight till the last day and till his last breath. The story evolves around the topic by bringing a young boy in. This boy used to go fishing with him. After the many days without a fish his parents refused him to go with the old man. This was the first of the many problems. Later on the story bring the boy in a lucky boat while the old man has no luck. the old man is then shown fishing where he gets hold of a mighty fish. The fact that he is old now becomes one of his problem but he did not take that as his weakness. He carried on with the major current. To make it worse the sun burned the eyes of the old man. The story continues to illustrate the idea of a man being destroyed by showing the fish with even more strength and intelligence. The fish never jumped or used its massive power but went in its direction in its own calm speed. The old man had to stay nights awake drinking the water he had and the food he gathered. The old man got cramps he started to have back pains, cuts which drained blood. After the fish started circling the fisherman got the fish in some time. But the drained blood had reached the sharks. The sharks ate an amount of a fish and the rope. The old man also lost the harpoon. He was already quite far away from the shore he and the fish. The sharks did not give up and continued to trouble the old man in the process the whole fish was gone. By the time he returned he had planes searching for him and many ships. Many days had passed. But he reached DESTROYED BUT NOT DEFEATED.
