As we all know, after the Carnation Revolution of 1974, by a military coup of our armed forces, once again the state of Portugal is truly a democratic state. Our new government had immediately stopped military actions in Angola a year ago and granted their independence with Alvor Agreement. It deeply saddens and concerns Portugal to see what is happening in Angola today, without us. We granted their independence for them to seek their future peacefully in democracy and provided for a three-way power sharing government, with MPLA, FNLA and UNITA, but it soon turned to a conflict for a sole power dominance. Portugal wishes to inform that it will stand with its allies and NATO, but also asks all of the UNSC to debate wisely and find effective solutions to this concerning matter.
