Etiyopya’da yaptığı çalışmalarda bulduğu, neredeyse kusursuz şekilde saklanmış Australopithecus anamensis kafatasını görünce paleontolog Yohannes Haile-Selassie ne kadar heyecanlandı bilinmez ancak bilim camiasında büyük coşku yarattığı kesin. Haile-Selassie (İmparator olan Haile Selasiye ile aynı soyadı) ve bir çobanın keşfettiği bu kafatası sayesinde 3,8 milyon yıllık ve evrimde çok az bilinen insan atalarından biri hakkında daha fazla bilgi edinebileceğiz.
Uzmanlara göre bu fosil, insan türünün iki ayak üzerinde yürümeye nasıl başladığı konusunda önemli bilgiler verebilir. Londra Doğa Tarihi Müzesi’nden Fred Spoor, bulunan kafatasının insan evrimindeki bir başka önemli nokta olduğunu söylüyor.
Kafatası ilk olarak Etiyopya’nın Worsano-Mille, Afar bölgesinde 2016’da bulundu. Kafatasının neye ait olduğunu çözmek ise 3,5 yıl sürdü.
Şimdilik sadece kafasi tasarlanabilirken, Iste geçtiğimiz günlerde ortaya çıkan ilk insanın görüntüsü.
