part i: background information

by using wake county’s real estate and voter records, his dad, living in preston village as a straight, white, male, influences sam greatly. sam’s dad and mom voted for mitt romney in the 2012 election, who showed anti-gay, pro-death penalty, anti-marijuana, and anti-green energy sentiments. his parents also voted for trump in 2016, according to their voter records.

part ii: bio’s analysis
sam lloyd’s bio includes the phrase “#AcTiViSt #EnTiTlEd.” this phrase reveals sam lloyd’s nature in his longing for acceptance and his low evel of empathy. sam lloyd ridicules the phrase activist, which indicates his perception of the world is highly influenced by his parents. ridiculing activism in the modern world, which include blm, feminism, and lgbtq+ movements, show his lack of empathy to those who aren’t similar to him. because he faces no prejudice, he can’t relate to others with issues, so labels them as radical. the ridiculing of the word entitled reinforces his unawareness of the position he’s in. more importantly, this bio indicates a longing to connect with others of republican views and uses bringing down progressives as a way to bond with others he’s too afraid to do so non-politically. he’s afraid of other straight, white males’ opinion of him

part iii: the story’s analysis
the manner in which he responds to a rant about the privilege straight, white males receive in america and in the justice system further reinforces his unawareness in his privilege. his response also shows how he needs to validate himself. he brings others down to make himself feel better about himself. by attempting to create a profound statement by replying in a way that’s supposed to make him sound worldly and intelligent, he reveals that he wants to be regarded as intelligent and needs validation from his peers. by making himself sound better than others, i can conclude his parents only give him attention when he does something good, and will otherwise ignore him. this reinforcement from his parents, coupled by their political views, make sam lloyd a narcissist craving for validation for his self-appointed greatness and has low levels of empathy.
