Since August is Water Quality Awareness Month, now is the perfect time to assess whether we are all putting our hydration as a top priority. Today I'll be sharing some ways you can make sure you increase ho much water you drink on a daily basis. From tracking your water intake with an app to drinking filtered water, keep reading for easy ways you can boost your hydration today.

Before I share some details on how you can drink more water every day, let's first discuss some reasons why it's important to stay hydrated. Did you know that water makes up about 60% of our body weight? Water is vital for almost every function in the body, acting as a building block, a solvent for chemical reactions, and a transport material for nutrients and waste. Water also helps to regulate our body temperature and acts as a shock absorber for our joints and brain. Drinking plenty of water will help your body function at its highest capacity. Proper hydration can reduce fatigue, improve endurance and reduce post-exercise soreness.

Keep in mind that the amount of water you'll need depends on several factors, including your age, gender, activity level, and more. However, here’s a good general guideline when it comes to recommended daily water intake: Women should drink at least 2.21 liters per day and men should drink three liters per day. Increase your daily water intake as you increase your activity level. Be sure to always drink filtered water to avoid toxins found in tap water.

1. Drink filtered water!
Nobody wil lwant to drink water that doesn't taste good.

2. Sip before every meal!
If you're cooking dinner at home, get into the habit of drinking water while you cook & prep your food. If you're sitting at a restaurant, drink water while you wait for your meal to be served. Once you get into the habit of establishing these little "rules," you will find that it's much easier to do it automaticlaly without having to think about it.

3. Use an app to track your cups.
There are many apps out there that will help you log your water intake. Find one that you like and start using it. It will be an incentive to keep drinking when you have a pretty chart that tracks your water consumption over a week. Some of these apps will also offer the option of an alarm or daily reminder to encourage you to drink that water.

4. Grab a smart water bottle.
A fun gadget always makes things more ...well, fun! There are water bottles out there that will calculate your recommended water intake and then send you notifications when it's time to sip. It also logs your water intake, Talk about convenience and encouragment. Another fun thing to add is reusable straws. There are stianless straws and colorful ones that make drinking more fun. When you drink from a straw, you drink more quickly and that's always a good thing.

5. Dilute sugary drinks.
This is a habit that I learned growing up as a kid. My parents always used to do this and now I just got used to it. If you dilute something super sweet (juice, lemonade, iced tea) with water, you'll still enjoy some sweetness but also get some extra water at the same time.

6. Consumer water-rich foods.
A sneaky way to get more water in your diet is by consuming high-water foods, like cucumbers (96% water), zucchini (95% water), watermelon (92% water), and grapefruit (91% water). When you eat your water, you won't even notice it.

7. Snack on salty stuff.
Who doesn't love chips or popcorn or salted nuts? Those are some of ym favorite snacks and when I'm having those, I can't get enough water. So if you're tryingt o make an effort to drink more water, make an effort to incorporate more salty snacks in your diet, as long as you don't have any medical conditions that would be contraindicated in a hihg-sodium diet.

Another bonus tip is to always fill up your water bottle once you notice it's empty. If I forget to fill up my bottle, it sits on my desk empty for hours. When I remember to fill it up right away, it gets drank quickly.
