Friends and family are struggling to come to terms with the death of 18-year-old Elizabeth “Lake” Little.
She passed away after crashing a Cessna 172 onto the Ole Miss Golf Course Saturday, starting a large fire.
“She was a great sister. She was a great person. She was one of a kind,” said Patton Little, Lake’s brother.
Little was a busy young woman. She was deeply religious, going on several mission trips to Belize. She was Miss Hospitality for the City of Starkville, participated in the Mayor's Youth Council and started a program called “Reading Matters” where she taught young children to read.
Her community service caught the eye of Starkville's Mayor.
“She was a community figure even at her young age. Service was very important to her and it was just a delight to be around her,” said Mayor Lynn Spruill.
“The hardest part of losing her is knowing that she could have touched so many more people in her life,” said Shelby Ladner, Lake’s cousin. Little’s brothers said what she loved the most in life was flying. She spent years learning and training to be a pilot. Saturday, Little was performing touch-and-gos at the nearby Oxford University Airport. It’s a maneuver which involves landing on a runway and taking off again without coming to a full stop. Now the Little Family is saying goodbye to someone they love.

Police are searching for three suspects accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in his driveway Tuesday evening.
Around 6 p.m., three suspects riding in a black Chevrolet Silverado entered a subdivision at Dexter Road and Milbrey Street.
According to police, two suspects got out of the truck and walked down the middle of the street as the Silverado followed them.
The suspects approached the victim as he was standing in his driveway. They pointed guns at him and demanded cash. They then took the victim’s cell phone and ran back to the Silverado, driving away westbound on Dexter.

Memphis police are investigating after a man was found shot to death Sunday night at an apartment complex.
The shooting happened at the Eden At Watersedge Apartments on South Mendenhall Road just before 10 p.m.
Police said the victim was shot and fell from a balcony after an argument with a man.
There’s no suspect information available at this time.
Police are familiar with the apartment complex. In May, a 15-year-old girl was accused of shooting her own mother, a Shelby County corrections officer.
And last October, a Shelby County deputy was shot in the line of duty at Eden at Watersedge while serving a warrant. The suspect was shot and killed during that exchange.

The Verona Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff's Department responded to a shooting in Verona on East 10th Street on Sunday night.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson confirmed the Verona Police Department is investigating the case and the Lee County Sheriff's Department assisted.
