-Arete, Mikoto's sister, is sort of a low-key bitch and is the opposite of Mikoto personality wise. She's cold, isn't afraid to show her true feelings about things, and honestly is the blunt to the point of it being hurtful. She was generally suspicious of Anankos the entire time he was there and his presence brought up a bit of a patch between the sisters. Her marriage to the king of Valla was an arranged one- compared to his wife, he was known to be soft hearted and pretty clueless, though still a fairly decent ruler to his people. The only sort of softness Arete shows is in private, and it's usually towards her daughter, Azura, and her husband, who she grew pretty close to over the years.
-Mikoto is Arete's younger sister. They were both daughters of a high class noble family, which was why Arete managed to marry into royalty in the first place- Mikoto, comparatively, was more naive. She romanticized the idea of love due to her young age and often had silly daydreams about finding someone she actually loved to marry. She was also the more favored child of the two and was given a lot more leniency compared to Arete, her older sister masking her jealously by acting she was better then her sister. The two had a pretty cold relationship because of this, with Arete often dismissing her sister's "foolish" ideas and just making her sister feel like general crap, and Mikoto in turn often retreating in the security of her family home. Her parents put pressure onto her to marry, though she refused to since she wanted to find her "true love".
-Anankos, since the people of Valla basically tried to kill him, are pretty afraid of him and he's nothing but a folk legend whispered in their homes. They see him as bad, despite him helping him and it being pretty much their fault they were put into this position, though are unaware of what really happened.
-Mikoto eventually meets Anankos, or at least his human self- she finds him unconscious and nurses him back to health slowly, to the disdain of both her sister and her family. They view the stranger's appearance with suspicion, though her parents less so. Anankos finds out that Arete is a bit of a bitch to Mikoto and when she begins to talk down on her in his presence, tells her off- which makes her sort of admire him since nobody tells her off at all, and slowly begins to fall for him over time.
-Anankos also bonds with Arete's husband, who seems very familiar to him to the point where he can't put a finger on it...
-Mikoto and Anankos begin a "secret" relationship
