I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad and for your sadness. He really did have some great last years because of his sons, though. And your Mom made those last years lots better too.
I sure have some fun-filled memories of your dad back from when I was a teenager. Especially one summer stands out...when I stayed at your place just about all summer. We lived at Spokane, Washington at the time and I came down to visit Grandma, Honnie, your mom and dad and my cousins. Your dad was always fun and made me laugh. It was a summer filled with water-skiing, riding around on the sand dunes, eating candy, staying up late watching scary movies and trying to keep up with my wild little cousins. I think Scott was very young then.
Your Dad took us to the lake to water ski many times and I was able to water ski for the first time and many times after that. Your dad even let me go over the ski jump as many times as I wanted to try it, even though I splatted on the water like a mosquito every time. I remember fun trips on the sand dunes too. which were filled with thrills. One time your dad even rigged up a "Land Ski" for us which consisted of an upside-side down car trunk lid tied to his sand rig with a rope. Then he proceeded to drag us "skiers" around for a rough but fun ride over various sand hills. It was great fun!
All in all it was one of the most fun summers of my life and your dad was a big part of what made it that way. I had such a good time that I tried to hide from my mom and dad when they came to pick me up!
I am so sorry Mom and I weren't able to make it to your dad's memorial dinner and get-together. Your mom said the place was packed out with your dad's friends and family and that there tons of delicious food you boys, your wives and mom prepared and provided. I am sure he would have been proud of the awesome send-off you gave him.
