Merengue is a type of music and a style of dance. Merengue originated in the Dominican Republic. It’s very popular there, and is a style of latin dance, but it’s not very popular in Spain. It’s generally a very fast dance and is done with two partners. The merengue dancers often wear very colorful and bright costumes. Juan Luis Guerra is one of the merengue artists. Merengue uses instruments, as well, such as drums and trumpets. It uses lots of percussion instruments and a few brass. The accordion is popular.

Mariachi

Mariachi is a style of music. It originated in Mexico. It isn't super popular anywhere else, but it's known in other countries. It generally has trumpets and guitars, sometimes even violins. It's played in groups and bands, not just one solo person. The musicians play in festivals, family gatherings, and more. Most don't perform in restaurants, though. They are known for strolling around while they sing. The wide-brimmed hats that they wear are called sombreros. They also wear bright, festive costumes, themed off of the charros, or cowboys. Their instruments were originally from the strings family, and Mariachi started to modernize in the 30's. Only one person in the group sings, the rest play instruments.

Daddy Yankee is a well-known reggateon artist. The style is very modern and pop-like. It began in 1990s. It’s characterized by a fusion of Latin rhythms, dancehall, and hip hop or rap. Don omar and Wisin y Yandel are also famous reggateon artists.
