Mehmet Can Yatmaz 1990 Yılının Kasım ayında Hasan,Ayşe çiftinin tek oğlu olarak Samsun'da dünyaya geldi. Babası Hasan YATMAZ, Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri bünyesinde Subay mertebesinde, annesi Ayşe YATMAZ tıp fakültesinde öğretim görevlisi olarak görevini icra etmekteydi. İlk ve orta öğreniminin ardından lise eğitiminide tamamlayan Yatmaz, Hacettepe Tıp Fakültesini kazanarak sağlık alanında kendini geliştirmeye başladı. Üniversite eğitimi sırasında arkadaş ortamı sayesinde tanıştığı Selin Atılgan ile tanışan Yatmaz, uzun uğraşlar sonucunda ailelerin ikna edilmesiyle yollarını birleştirdi. Üniversite'nin bitmesinin ardından Mardin sınır hattında Tabip Asteğmen mertebesinde vatani görevini icra ederken lojmanlara gerçekleştirilen saldırı sonucunda eşini kaybetti. Eşini kaybetmesinin ardından bir kaç yıl içerisinde kendini toparlayarak İstanbul Sağlık Müdürlüğü bünyesinde göreve başladı. Doktorluk kariyeri boyunca bir çok başarılı operasyonlara ve hizmetlere imza atarak Doçent Doktor mertebesine ulaştı fakat İstanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü bünyesinde görev yapan yakın dostlarını kendi elleriyle şehit olarak toprağa verdikten sonra bunalıma girip görevinden istifa etti. Aldığı psikolojik destek sonucunda Istanbul Sağlık Müdürlüğü bünyesindeki kariyerini noktalandırarak, Emniyet Müdürlüğü bünyesinde göreve başlama kararı aldı.
