After my girlfriend’s mom informed me that someone had just hit my parked car, I went outside to see. Upon walking outside I saw that my car had been pushed around 15 feet from its originally parked position. The left rear bumper, tail light, trunk, and frame had all been pushed in and damaged. The car that had hit mine was no where to be seen. At first I assumed it was a hit and run but my girlfriend’s dad had chased the man who hit my car and made him stop. The man’s Honda Odyssey was parked pretty far down the street from the accident site.
Our neighbor called the police, and when the police arrived the man could be heard repeating “I’m sorry.” and “I’ll pay for it” by multiple witnesses. He was uninjured, and not under the influence but both cars received moderate to severe damage. His license wasn’t on him, but in his home. The police officer let him off with a verbal warning, but no fine for driving without a license.
After obtaining a quote for the damage to my car, I asked him if he would pay the $6,000 in damages, but he refused and wishes to go through insurance.
