When you try so hard to be someone you’re not, you lose sight of yourself. You end up doing things to please other people, resulting in living by their expectations. In the end, you become what they want you to be, which can lead anyone down the wrong path to self-destruction.

knowing people, having money, being well-known and well-liked is what Mia cared about. She thought that if she had a boyfriend on the football team, if she was part of the cheer squad, if she had tons of friends and went to every party she heard about, she would feel better. But in the end, she didn't.

To escape the feelings of inadequacy, Mia began a lifestyle completely alien to the people of West Quarry. She got hooked on crack, had half the football team nail her, filled her room with the most expensive clothing and accessories that money could buy.

END OF PROLOGUE
BEGIN ACT ONE

Mia Terry's younger brother, Theo Terry, never thought that his sister was "depressed" or "suicidal" or "fake." He loved her, more than anyone in the world, and her death becomes his focus. He wants to do what she couldn't: Find his True Self, and embrace it. And in the process, he goes through the five stages of grief.

Outwardly, Theo is very similar to his sister. He's a soccer player, a good-looking young man, and has every potential of going to college on a sports scholarship. He beds every girl that will take him (which is nearly all of them), goes to every party he hears about but realizes that the awful feelings he's been having aren't normal when his sister kills herself, and public opinion shifts.

People glance sidelong at the best goalie West Quarry has ever seen. His friends withdraw, seeing him as broken, and, in defence, Theo pulls back.

One night, about a month after his sister's death and a week after her funeral, his girlfriend breaks up with him on his front porch, and he finally breaks down. He begins to understand what Mia must have been feeling -- How far she had gone in the wrong direction. How much farther she was prepared to go, if she hadn't ended her own life first.

Theo realizes two things: 1.) If he wants to get over the death of his sister, he has to stop living like she's still here. For this, he gets upset, at both Mia and at himself, but also at Mia's friends and at the town in general. And 2.) He has to accomplish the one thing she would have wished for him to accomplish: He has to figure out who he really is.
