Notes

DM: "You and your adventuring party are a band of mercenaries that are hired by the kingdom of Fosterra to help them fight the kingdom of Malovent. Technically you were hired by the royal family, though in actuality you were hired by a human guard (paladin) named Jacklin, who served the royal family. You and the party met him in a tavern, and that is where the adventure begins."

[Notes: Jacklin is someone who has high, squeaky voice, with a nervous tic and a nervous laugh. He stutters when he talks and tends to run circles around the actual problem. Often he is mistaken for someone untrustworthy, or perhaps a spy or an enemy, though, rest assured, he wouldn't dream of serving another if he was given all the gold in the world for it.
He's someone who looks like he could be a con man. With the sort of disheveled hair that seems to be rinsed with water to try to fix it up. His eyes always seem to be shifting around the place, and his uniform, a simple soldier's garb, is as disheveled as his hair, with dirt dust in the metal and wrinkles in the cloth.]

DM: "The tavern where you were called to is quite empty, unusual since this is a popular spot of adventurers and soldiers alike. It's a pretty nice tavern, with many tables with stools to sit in, devoid of many people except for Jacklin, who looks strange sitting by himself in a large table that, you assume, he saved for all of you. It was spotless, with the worse signs of disgust being a lone spider in the corner spinning a web. There's a woman that's behind the counter, who you assume is the owner, that is polishing glass absentmindedly."

DM: "Jacklin waves you over and each of you take a seat."

Jacklin: [stuttering] "Thank goodness you're here! I- I got your first assignment! It took a little while, since the capital got invaded by Realmers, but it's here! [starts to mumble] Messengers are pretty unreliable too. I mean- Still, I know it's wartime and all but sheesh. [mumbling ends] Alright, alright, alright. It's pretty simple, ya know, to test your abilities and all, make sure we got good for our money. So, it's just to take the fort a little ways away from here! It's inhabited by enemy troops, but you'll be fine! I'm sure!"

DM: "Jacklin pushes a piece of parchment towards the middle of the table. The parchment, which looks worse for wear with tears in it, gives more information than what Jacklin just said. It's an unnamed fort not too far from this town. There's nothing that really seems daunting, as there is only open road to the mountain that the fort lays on, but plays a crucial part as it is by a river and provides cover for archers. It's been taken by the Malovent, and advises those that try to capture it that they will expect having arrows and magic rain down at them."

[Notes to DM: You can instantly travel them there, as there is only open road to there, though it will take a day or two (about 24 miles) and will have minimal encounters. But there is also a traveling merchant that they will miss out on.

Merchant Mariella: An overly energetic girl that looks a bit too young to travel and acts a bit too over the top to be natural. She, though it's nearly impossible to know even with insight, is very intelligent and has a sharp eye and wit.
Her long gold hair is split into pigtails and she is covered in green. Her big blue eyes never miss a sight and one can tell from her skin that she hasn't been in many fights.]
