See the issue with the patriarchal way our world is run is that I felt and continue to feel uncomfortable and immoral for posting a picture of myself in any revealing clothing but I would not flinch to see a man in nothing but boxer shorts. There is an issue when women are sluts for exercising the same right of bodily expression that men receive. There is an issue when women who wear short skirts and tank-tops are said to be "asking for it" in reference to sexual abuse. However, a man with absolutely no shirt on is not abnormal let alone reduced to an object only good enough for a violent and demeaning crime. There is an issue when I'm sure I will be dubbed a "feminazi" for my views on women's rights. Why is it so egregious to hope for a day when I don't have to fear misogynistic insults and rape. There is a problem when single mothers are viewed as selfish and immature, but single fathers are viewed as selfless and mature. There is a problem when a powerful businesswoman is called a bossy bitch, but an equally powerful businessman is seen as an idol and someone that children aspire to be. There is a problem when women are called dramatic when refusing to adopt solely their husband's name in marriage. There is a problem when girls are attacked for putting men into the "friend zone". Why is it that we cannot interact with a human of the opposite sex without automatically owing them our body? There is a problem when women still get paid less on the dollar compared to a man for doing the exact same job. There is a problem when women's underwear costs $12.50 for one pair, and men's cost the same for 4. There is a problem when we use "don't be such a girl" as an insult and "be a man" as a phrase of motivation. There is a problem when we tell girls they are lying when they open up about their sexual abuse. There is a problem when we tell our young generations of girls that something as criminal as rape is not the rapist's fault, but the victim's. There is a problem when commercials only feature women in roles of domesticity, and men in positions of power. There is a problem when female feminists are seen as bitches, and male feminists are seen as empathetic and altruistic. There is a problem when preteen girls are hollered at by grown men on the side of the road, and then told they are prudish for covering up or whoreish for deciding to ignore their harassment. There is a problem, and no one should be okay with it.
