INVESTIGATING HOW GLUCOSE AFFECTS RESPIRATION













Intro
We’re investigating the change in height of a yeast and glucose solution with temperature . We will put the solution into a conical flask covered with tin foil and then place it into a heated water bath .


Hypothesis
I think that the yeast and glucose solution will rise after its been placed in the heated water bath .


Safety
We wore lab coats in case of any spillages . We kept the area clear so nothing got pushed of the table accidentally , and we also wore safety glasses just in case anything popped and shot up .








Variables
We changed the amount of glucose we used in each test . We kept the temperature the same for each test . We measured the starting height of each solution then we calculated how much the mixture grew in height . Then for each test we found the average distance in height .


Equipment
We used 3 beakers, 9 conical flasks , test tubes , 3 measuring cylinders , glass stirring sticks , tin foil , ruler an electronic balance , glucose , yeast and deionised water.










Measurements
We used vernier calipers and a ruler to measure the height of the solution .
We used a thermometer to check the temperature of the water bath to keep it at 35 degrees. We also used an electronic balance to weigh the beakers and conical flasks. We repeated each test 3 times to get an average.

Time + Considerations
We considered the time it would take to do the tests so we did most of them in one class. But we had to repeat it again since the ones previous to that weren’t quiet right.
