Ode

The exciting sport Football
You are so fun to play
I remember sacking
the quarterback one day
It was as exciting as going down
the top of a roller coaster
It was all because of you.
You have made a change
to my life and my family’s.
By having to wake up at 6
For one your games.
Teaching me the importance
of using your time wisely.
The amazing feeling of winning.
Having a pizza party with my team
After winning the championship.
The team root after we win.
Making me eager to have
that moment again.
The feeling of learning how to lose
Teaching me to work hard for what I want.
Getting second place on a tournament
And getting teary eyed because of
How far we went for nothing.
I wouldn’t have learned any
of this if it weren't for you
You have and will continue
To change my life.




Where I'm From

I am from my house
The chores I have to do after school.
Vacuuming the floors and washing the dishes
The pain of doing work for four hours.
My chores is where i'm from
I am from my bike and helmet
Playing tag with my friends.
From sweat running down my head
and chasing them through the neighborhood.
My friends are where I am from,
I am from my sisters annoying me
Coming in to my room every 2 minutes
Telling me to “shut up” whenever I tell them to leave.
My sisters fighting at the dinner table
Over who can sit closer to my mom
Screaming “It's my turn to sit there!”
My family is where i'm from,
I am from the sport Football
The early games at 6:15 lasting till 10.
The exciting moments when tackling the QB
My sports are where i'm from.
But most important of all
My great big family is where i'm from.








Choice 1 Poem

Los Gatos Poem
I moved to Los Gatos when I was eleven
The friends I made were really nice.
I was new in 6th grade and it was pleasant
Plus, the school looked really cool at night.

I go to downtown almost every weekend
It's not far away, it's a five minute walk.
I only go to downtown when I am with my friends
We usually walk to downtown while we talk.

There's a lot of things to do while your in downtown
You can eat, watch movies, and play in the park.
When your here, you will feel like like a boss
It's fun in day, but it will get funner when it is dark.

Lights will shine throughout the town
It will look like something out of a movie.
This place won't leave you with a frown
Even the music they play here is soothing.



















Choice 2 Poem

Favorite Part of Day
My favorite part of my day is three.
Cause I get to go home to my family
I get to go home, and I get to relax
Then at 7, I go to do my chores
After, I go to my kitchen and grab
A oreo snack pack, afterwards I relax
Now i'm baking cookies and it's already 1am
Then as 2 turns into 3 I drift off and go to sleep
I wake up and it's 7:05 my head hurts,
but I need to get ready for school.
I pack my snacks and walk to school

Dear Larry
I know you pretty and, you are really nice
You invited me to your house
and offered me water with ice
You seem pretty chill and pretty cool
During the summer we should hangout
We can go to the pool or go to downtown
I don't care where we go as long as it's fun
After were done we can go to my house
We can play video games or watch tv
Cause when your with me I'm more fly than a bee
We should hang out again, last time was fun.

Poem Explanation

My tone for the “Los Gatos Poem” was very Respectful and Light. It was not meant to make anyone feel scared or terrified, it was meant to show peace and how peaceful the town of Los Gatos was during the day time. I also talked about the night time in los gatos because during the summer after a hot day, it is so relaxing walking around and looking at the lights shine through each store with music also playing in the park. My theme was to show the reader how nice Los Gatos is. I wanted to show the reader that moving isn't bad, especially when you are moving to Los Gatos. I wanted to inform and entertain the reader with all the amazing things there is to see in Los Gatos. One poetic feature that helped me explain ways by rhymes. The rhymes kept me into the moment making me want to know more about this town Los Gatos. The rhyme helped contribute to my theme because I would be showing all these positives about los gatos, but it wasn’t becoming boring because it stayed on that rhythm with the rhymes. Another poetic feature that helped me was literal. By keeping it literal I was talking about things that had literally happened before.
















Poem Explanation
My tone for My “Favorite Part of Day” was stressful but relaxing in some points. In my Choice Poem, I decided to talk about the day in the life of me and probably a lot of other middle schoolers. In my poem, I talked about how three was my favorite part of the day because I get to see my family (Mom, two sisters). This showed how being in school from eight to three limited my time from seeing my mom, because instead of seeing her all day, I would only get to see her after school. My theme was showing that even though every day might be a struggle, it will all be worth it at the end. This means that even though that you might have to go to school from 8 to 3, it might be hard, but when you finish it, it will be worth it because you will get to relax for eight hours until you have to go to school again the next day and do the same thing. One of my poetic features is rhyming. I found that if I just read this as and ode and not with rhyme’s in it, it might be boring. So to connect the reader more to the poem, I added rhyme’s. The second poetic feature I used was Mood. I used mood to help explain how I felt when I was making cookies at 1 in the morning. I was using mood to show how stressed I was, how tired I was, and how much my head was hurting.


















Poetry Portfolio Reflection
When I am writing poetry, I strive to achieve at least three stanzas in each poem that I may write. I also try to rhyme in my poems to make it more interesting and make it funner to read. As an example, for my Choice 1 poem I used my Los Gatos poem. My Los Gatos poem that I had written had three stanzas and had rhymes. It didn’t just have rhymes though, I made the rhymes every other line so that I could make a rhythm in my poetry. I did this so that the words that rhyme with each other would have some sort of a link. Some of my strengths when I write poems is rhyme and rhythm. I don't know why but whenever I put one word in, my mind is working and telling me five other words that would rhyme with that word. For example, my Letter Poem and my Los Gatos Poem. My Los Gatos poem has a poem and a rhythm with it, helping to explain why I love Los Gatos. On the other hand for my Letter Poem, I use mood and rhyme to show how good of a friend that I think Larry is. I use nice things he's done for me and more to combine with other words to make a rhythm. I think what makes poetry valuable or useful is when we use the tone and the rhyme’s and take advantage of the good things in life and turn those things into a poem. I also think if we could make poems involved in political debates and other things. It would be a more peaceful to deal with debates instead of arguing with each other or saying bad things about each person.

Football is not easy
Especially when your new

I got how to play defense
And how to play offence

I learned how to play football.
