The Caregiver’s Dilemma
One’s personal relationship with a nurse or child caregiver can be a personal, nostalgic memory from one’s childhood. In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet Capulet’s relationship with her nurse is depicted as a caring one, despite their occasional rows and differing opinions. The Nurse is also a humorous person, intended to lighten the mood of a heavy story. She is also careless, assisting Juliet with disastrous plans, sometimes unknowingly. However, her intentions are never malicious, as she sometimes recognizes situations as being detrimental to Juliet and advising her otherwise. In conclusion, Juliet’s nurse is a caring person with a humorous personality, whose inattention inhibits her ability to make intelligent decisions.
During the course of the story, one can see that Juliet’s nurse cares about her charge. When Lady Capulet, Juliet and herself are talking to each other towards the beginning of the story, the nurse notes that she can not believe that Juliet already fourteen, explaining “Peace. I have done. God mark thee to his grace, Thou wast the prettiest babe that e’er I nursed. An I might live to see thee married once, I have my wish”
