Der Computer-Hersteller Asus ist gehackt worden. Unbekannte Angreifer spielten Nutzern ein falsches Update auf den Rechner. Es wurden etliche Computer angegriffen, aber die Hacker hatten es nur auf ausgewählte Nutzer abgesehen, deren MAC-Adresse in dem Schadcode hinterlegt war. Sobald ein das Programm auf einem der gelisteten Computer landete, hat das schädliche Update weitere Malware heruntergeladen. Eine Organisation, die im Auftrag des chinesischen Staats agieren soll, ist in die Systeme der Bayer AG eingedrungen. Ziel der Winnti-Schadsoftware war Betriebsspionage.
