Information is power, but only when you have the tools necessary to use this power. Give useful information to one with a similar set of goals- one who wants the government destroyed just as much as you do. If he has no tools either, you have more power joined together.
(We can, of course, see this happen with Winston and Julia. They both share goals and information when they can- in the forest, at the shop, or anywhere else. They have common goals, and gather strength in each other.)

Even if you have supposed allies, make sure not to get too comfortable. Anyone - if they aren't already- can turn out to be a spy, or officer, watching and waiting. Waiting for the perfect time to make a move.
In this world, the only one you can trust is yourself. Because you only know your own thoughts and goals, limited to observing just your own mind. Others are an enigma. For most, it is unclear if they are on your side or not. For those close to you, it's just as likely a well-played pokerface. An act.
Have allies, but don't trust allies.
(This can be seen in 1984, when looking at Mr. O'Brein- a man winston thought he could trust, one that seemed to have the same goals and dreams as him. While even going as far as to give winston a "book" of the brotherhood, O'Brein turned out to associated with the ministry of love- planning Winston's arrest ever since he wrote the diary.)

What the government produces cannot be trusted. Even if there is no logic to base an assumption on, never assume a piece of information is the truth. Work with what you know. If a piece of information contradicts with what you know to be true, use that. A doubt in yourself can let a crucial opportunity pass by.
(The party, in 1984, changes information all the time. Most infamously, when the truth of 3 convicts were altered in order to meet with the party's needs. Winston held knowledge that proves the party's lies, a piece of knowledge he held on to in an attempt to remember how sly the party can be.)

DON'T WAIT FOR POWER TO FALL. grq'w zdlw iru srzhu wr idoo.
Take action when and where you can. Simply gathering information, or waiting until the dictator falls out of power, accomplishes nothing. In most cases, you needn't worry about waiting for power to fall- because the power never will. Without an opposition a dictatorship will only keep getting bigger. Like a simple game of Whack-a-Mole, strike when the time is right. Use what you have gathered to slowly destroy what a government has built up.

THOUGHTS ARE YOUR ADVANTAGE. wkrxjkwv duh brxu dgydqwdjh.
This is the most important piece of advice we can offer. The item you treasure most are your own thoughts. Your mind has the power to keep you sane, sore your information, and- most importantly- act as a symbol that y o u a r e s t i l l h e r e. You are conscious, you have the ability of free thought and those in power cannot fully control you. A reminder that you are not gone yet can be all someone needs to keep them from breaking.
Those in power are afraid of individual thought. Use this to your advantage. Those you do not let into your mind cannot access it, and fear the power of your thought because of it. Though you are physically bound, you have access to the endless power of your own mind.

Your experiences will be simply situational. We cannot predict what your experiences will be, nor tell you how to combat them. You must choose your battles carefully. There will be times where you must take a stand, and times where you must stay our of sight. A "Fight or Flight" response, if you will.
Think logically. Situations will require different answers. Know when you cannot win, or control an outcome, and act accordingly.

Those who do not know you must not doubt you. Too much exposure and you stop hiding in plain sight. Instead, put on a mask when with strangers. Try not to express disgust, fear, anger when faced with a dictatorship. We urge you to conform, or at least pretend to.
Conformity, of course, should never come before rebellion, those goals you hold so dear. But there is a time and a place- rebel only when you can, and with those who support you. Never make yourself stick out- it is crucial to blend in.
(Winston's "act of rebellion" is the diary, which he does in (relative) secret and hides when he isn't using it. When out in public- as seen by the two minutes hate and the conversation with Syme, Winston behaves like any other citizen.)

Every thought, piece of knowledge, item, book, evidence, food, propaganda, are all important. Important, but maybe for different reasons. Keep your resources, no matter how small or pointless they seem. There may come a time where you'll need them, or they'll be paramount to your survival.
