Notes

My supervised agricultural experience project is in the primary category of leadership, education, and communication and in the primary subcategory of community development. I will be volunteering for Life Springs Methodist Church in Zebulon Georgia and Jerusalem Methodist Church in Culebra, Puerto Rico. The first thing I will be doing in Culebra is cleaning the island from trash and hurricane damage. I will work for Pastor David of Jerusalem Methodist Church to do demolition work on two bathrooms that are leaking into his kitchen downstairs. The tile is cemented to the cement wall and we will have to strip the tiles off of the wall to rebuild the bathroom and to get to the plumbing in order to fix the leak. I will also help build a second room to the daycare center for Ada, and paint all of the outside walls. The foundation for the walls is already there so all we will do is build and place the framework, put walls on, and build a roof.
The mission team of twelve along with myself will take a plane from Atlanta Georgia to San Juan airport in Puerto Rico and take taxis to Fajardo, PR. From there we will take a ferry to Culebra, PR to begin our mission work. We will stay at the Jerusalem Methodist Church, the bathrooms we will work on are in the church and the daycare we will work for is a half of a mile down the road from the church. I will be working with my mom: Vicky Gutwein, Shane Moore, Russ Nuss, Beth Holiday, MacKenzie McIntyre, Noah Keffer, Kaylee Andrews, Lynn Shivers, Payton Bussell, Mike Arrington, and Alex Smith. The people I will work for are Pastor David and Ada at the daycare. I will work with my mom, Alex, and Beth to strip the bathroom and I will work with Alex, Shane, Mike, Noah, and Russ to build the daycare an extra room. We will all work on painting the walls for the daycare sense it would be a rather big job.
We will leave Saturday sixth, work until Friday the twelfth and return Saturday the thirteenth. The church we will stay at in located at CLL Pedro Marquez Culebra, 00775, Puerto Rico. The Sunday we will attend church and then pick up trash on the island. The next day we will start on the bathrooms demolition. Tuesday we will continue working on the bathroom and depending on how much we get done we will continue working into the next day or until we finish the bathrooms. Wednesday I will go over to the daycare and help build the framework, walls, and roof. Thursday we will continue building the second room and start on painting the outside walls. Friday we will finish up painting and hopefully be finished with all of our projects by the end of the day.
We go to Culebra to help people in need, whether it's ministry, loving the community, or physical labor. We want to see a difference in the community, in people's houses and in their lives because we will help them. The daycare center is growing fast and they need another room. They want to use the room as an art class and an extra classroom. The daycare also needs to be repainted with bright, vibrant colors for the children. We will need to get wood for the classroom and paint, detail brushes, and rollers. The smiles and gratefulness on the people's faces when we work is why we work. This will be my first year going on a mission trip, I know it will be difficult to adapt to the island, the people, the language barrier, but there is no barrier when you work for the needy.
