1. Which cow variety- hybrid breed or desi breed is widely in use in dairy farm in the urban area?
2. Initial investment cost-
-Price of each cow
-Cost of building shelter (feed trough, fan, ventilation, resting space, excretion dumping etc.)
-Cost of land (if not owned)
3. Approx. calculation of profit per day-
-Milking capacity of each cow per day?
-Selling rate of milk per liter for each cow?
-Selling rate of cow dung and wee (if being sold)?
-Cost price of food intake for each cow?
-Maintenance cost including veterinary doctor fee, medicines, cleaning etc.
-Labor cost (if owner is not the labor) or current labor price in the market
3. Food consumption, solid and liquid excretion by weight for each cow per day?
4. General info about cow breeds- hybrid and desi, their respective lactation cycles, milking cycle, pregnancy, etc.
6. From where they have bought the cow and if they can provide a good dealer contact?
7. Real problems faced by the caretaker which might affect this profitable business (when visiting any dairy farm)?
8. Take snapshots of dairy farm while visiting it.
9. Veterinary specific questions-
-Comparison between desi vs hybrid- Milk quality, milking capacity and period, pregnancy, offspring calves etc.
-Common diseases in hybrid and desi and their identification
-Reqd. diet, sanitation, shelter conditions to be salubrious for both desi and hybrid
-Approx. treatment and medicines cost to be incurred for both hybrid and desi types per month
-Take as many suggestions, advice, contacts and info as you can for setting up dairy farm along with challenges
-Info about short term training
-Contact of any veterinary doctor in Bangalore
Personal suggestions:
-While conversation either in person or through phone, record the audio if not able to write or memorize the things.
-While visiting khatal, better take taste of their milk and then ask questions. They might become more open.
