Notes brand slogan

Notes - notes.io

drawing foundations - ability to simply objects into visually strong illustrations-
projects!!!
- what Elfie did:
- tarot card for werewolf game
- picture book - sex ed for young children
- imaginary art exhibition - branding - bags, mercy, logo, colour palettes - human of new york
--> different colours of the logo - selecting colour palettes from visual references - photos of people interview by the h of ny project
important part of graphic design - harmonious use of colours and shapes in order to leave a deep impression - it's all about business and brand recall
- school visual art posters and brochure - simple but popping - contrasting colours - e.g. red pink black and navy blue, pink orange and slate a little greenish blue, yellow pink sky blue black white, etc. - three posters - first one eyes covered, then half open, then the hands let go and the person "explores the art world" - symbolic - symbols: black hands and colourful face made of shapes
- graphic design principles:
1. entered around the needs of party A (the person contracting you)
2. needs again strong ability of simplifying images and objects, as well as an aesthetic eye
3. serves products, directed towards the market - commercialized
4. being pragmatic and fulfilling requirements while still fulfilling one's own artistic vision - it's 50/50 - PRODUCTS PRODUCTS PRODUCTS-FOCUSED
benefits of graphic design - lots of opportunities for experiment and jobs - but some artistic visions have to be sacrificed
- distill the most important information and present it in the most simplistic, direct way - which is the most difficult
successful branding - 椰树牌 - it's right in your face and bold and proclaims loud messages, but it works and now it's iconic - it's for all ages so it's set very bright and clear - while a niche indie canned drink would obviously appeal to that kind of aesthetic - your audience matters - or if you're designing a logo for a school basketball team you want it to be bold and fierce with line variation and kind of tacky graphics, not simplistic, equal line weight, indie feeling
PORTFOLIO???!!!
- for undergrad do a bit of everything - an overall view of your projects - a lot of uni's require specific things so check - for example rise and mica want you to do multiple medias - furniture, illustrations, ...
try having a collection of pieces from different medias - 3d, 2d, animations, furniture, decorations, the more creative and non-traditional, the better - but also traditional pieces if required
slideroom - images that show your process - initial sketches - different universities like different focuses - so ask lmao "do i need to show process
graphic design - put 2-3(-4) projects, with 1-2 addressing social issues - depression, sexual harassment, etc. - and also projects that are not so deeply rooted in reality, more imaginative - practicality mixed with creativity and artistry
do what you like, don't do something because it's popular - it will have no "soul", they can see that you do not like it
colour and style - decided based on the audience of this design and the focus
do not imitate other people's portfolios
different schools good for graphic design: RISD, Parsons, ArtCenter, SVA, SAIC, MICA, Pratt
SVA: very famous for graphic design - the graphic design is very commercialized, so portfolio should be like that - better for job opportunities so pro and con
ArtCenter - most famous for industrial design actually - doesn't have foundation year for you to explore your interests
Pratt - 大u是什么鬼 - didn't really talk about anything except that she felt the style is kind of "大u"
Parsons - Most famous for fashion design
RISD - Very famous for graphic design - style is less commercialized and more "pure art" according to her i mean she spent two months summer camp there
MICA - also very good for graphic design -
SAIC "cross-curriculum" - kind of like Brown where you can explore off with your own "major" - you get to mix subjects and stuff
incredibly large art museum - not graphic design but visual communication
