GErmany ww1 finished and the kaiser abdicated. This bringed a lot of problems to germany like poverty and how germany had lost the war they were suffering a lo t becaue of this. The Weimar Republic was set up so there was communism. This had good consequences and bad consequences. It ended up in not working out. Because of the war ended and Germany had lost the war, the countries decided to make Germany sign the treaty of Versailles. This meant that Germany had to take the blame for the war, it meant that Germany would have to pay for reparations which was worth £6.6 billion, Germany had lost 13% of their territorie and their army was reduced to only 100,000 men. This meant that Germanies protection was now weak and that if they were attacked they would heavily suffer. Germany struggled to pay the reparation so France decided to get 60,000 soldiers to the Ruhr which was the industrial territory of Germany and they took over it. the workers did passive strikes but they got killed and France took over it. At this moment Germany decided to print more and more money so they could pay for the reparations. This led to heavy hyperinflation. At the start 1 loaf of bread was worth 1 mark. By then end of the years because of the hyperinflation the price of a loaf of bread was worth $22 billion. This times were called the Great Depression and a lot of people were dying because of mass starvation. At this time a man called Gustav Stressman was a saviour. he solved most of the problems Germany was dealing with. He reduce the loans Germany had to pay and extended the time in which they had to be paid. Also he managed to get loans from America but America could want their money back at any time. Gustav built more houses so he could deal with the poverty problem. He also introduced new entretainment leisures. Then the wall street crash hit America so they had to take their loans back so Germany had to pay the loans back to America. This bringed back the depression and they went back to the start. At this time Hitler was trying to become chancellor so he was giving speeches telling people that if he was chosen he would stop starvation and that he would give jobs to people. Hitler ended up winning with the most votes. This led to a really important event * the Reichstag fire*. This event was Hitler telling a communist to catch on fire the Reichstag building. Then Hitler blamed the communist and he was to pass the enabling act. This meant that Hitler could pass any law he wanted and one of those laws was to ban the communists. Hitler was getting rid of the competition. Hitler also had the SS which were his special bodyguards. Also he was in controld of the SA after killing the General of the SA. Hitler also organised the Hitler Youth. This was getting kids to joing this adventorous cam which actually was military training space for kids to get prepared for war. The kids didnt know about this information so they were really exited to be part of this experience and they did enjoy the Hitler Youth. With some time they started to realise what the Hitler Youth really was so they decided to leave it. Then Hitler decided to make the Hitler Youth compulsory and if u did not attend it you would get fined.
