“Hey Stace, what is your favorite vacation spot?” asks Tom.

Woosh! A playground ball whizzes past Tom’s head.

“Excuse me! Just because we’re on the playground, doesn’t mean that you should chuck a playground ball at me!” Tom exclaims. “Sorry Stace, what is your favorite vacation spot?”

“Hmm Tom,” Stacy replies, “I can’t decide. It’s too hot to think and I’ve been to too many places!”

“Heh heh,” Tom chuckles. “I wish that I’ve gone to as many places as you.”

“Don’t worry Tom,” Stacy says with care. “Its not all that its cracked up to be.

“Oh thanks, Stace,” Tom says. “I was wondering because my parents are going to plan for my first trip! They asked me where I might want to go, and I can’t decide.”

“Do you have anything in mind?” Stacy asks.

Tom replies, “I heard about some places in social studies, and I guess some of them sounded good.”

“Great! Let’s hear em!” Stacy says excitedly.

“Maybe Texas, or California?” Tom says.

“Mmmmm, I dunno Tom,” Stacy replies. “If I was given the choice between those, I’d probably want to go to San Diego in California and hang by the beach.”

“Oooooh,” Tom says. “That sounds nice. Maybe I’ll get a little tan.”

Stacy nods and says, “Yeah, that does sound nice. Since I haven’t been there yet, maybe we could go together!”

“Oh yeah! We could make a huge sand castle, dig a big pit, and see turtles!” Tom replies.

“I love going to gift shops and getting souvenirs to show my friends,” Stacy says.

“What are gift shops?” Tom asks. “Do you get souvenirs there?”

“Tom,” Stacy replies, “gift shops are where you get souvenirs, small, overpriced things that you don’t need and the only reason you got them is so you can say that you have been to that place.”

“Wow,” Tom says, “I can’t believe that, one, I didn’t get that from the name, and two, I didn’t know about them in the first place.”

“Once you’ve traveled to any tourist attraction, you’ll know about them,” Stacy says, “and since you haven’t, it’s ok for you to not know about them.”

“Thanks Stace,” Tom replies.

“Anytime, Tom,” Stacy says. “We need to get our parents to coordinate the trip though.”

“They’re going to need to approve of it first,” Tom says. “That’ll probably be the hardest part.”

“Agreed,” Stacy says. “My parents might not like the idea of traveling with another family.”

“We still need to get our parents numbers, Stace,” Tom says.

Stacy says, “I’ve got some folding paper and a pencil.” Stacy writes her parents number down on paper. “Here, Tom,” Stacy says as she hands the small sheet of folding paper, folded into a bird.

“Thanks Stace,” Tom says, “I’ll write down mine.” Stacy hands him a sheet of folding paper and he writes numbers down onto the paper. As an added touch, he folds it into an amazing looking paper airplane. “Here you go,” Tom says as he throws it and it perfectly lands in her hands.

“Nice airplane,” Stacy says while she inspects the paper contraption in her hands. “Can you teach me how to make this?”

“Only if you can teach me how to make the bird,” Tom replied. They both laugh and teach each other how to make their paper masterpieces.

“Wow,” Tom says, “That’s a lot easier than it looks, and I also know that I don’t have to be afraid to ask a friend.”

TWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! The whistle blows.
