Lukisan ini dibuat pada abad ke 16. Kalau bahasa Perancisnya La Joconde, lalu bahasa Italianya La Gioconda. Merupakan lukisan minyak di atas kayu poplar yang dilukia oleh Leonardo da Vinci. Mona Lisa : Nonaku Lisa. Didalam buku Leonardo, 31 tahun setelah ia meninggal, sosok ini adalah istri dari seorang pengusaha kaya raya juga dikenal sebagai Lisa Gherardini, merupakan seorang anggota keluarga Gherardini di Firenze dan Toskana di Italia.
lukisan ini berukuran 77 cm × 53 cm (30 in × 21 in) dan berlokasi di Musée du Louvre, Paris. disimpan di museu. The Louvre, Prancis.

Disebelah mata kanan ada tulisan LV (inisial Leonardo da Vinci). mata sebelah kiri ada tulisan yang udah samar, huruf CE atau B. namun menurut Vinceti, lengkungan tersebut kayak angka 72 atau L2.
