Saint Nicholas was born on March 15, 270 AD in Patara which is now Turkey. Nicholas became very important because he cared for the poor, sick, children and others. His family were rich and always gave any money he had to anyone that needed it. He was the Bishop of Myra and after he died in December 6, 343 AD he became a Saint.

There are many stories about Saint Nicholas that all have to do with helping or giving to the poor or sick. He is also called the saint of sailors because he stopped a storm from destroying a ship. The most important stories are when he gave away gifts like money in secret. This showed how much he loved others because he would give away things and not care if others knew it was from him.

Saint Nicholas day is on December 6 which is the day he died. Another day that is related to him is Christmas because of Santa Claus. Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicholas because they both give away gifts in secret, help children and both of their names also sound the same. He will be always remembered for gift giving and helping anyone who needed help like children.
