So when we were selecting our topic I selfishly wanted to explore a personal interest of mine and we really motivated to better understand healthcare and the distribution of medicare payments in terms of specific fields like (pulmonary, cardiovascular).

-Our original hypothesis was that we wanted to learn about the process of medicare and how money is distributed depending on the surgery and operation (kind of operation). We grossly underestimated the intricacies in the operation categories I’ll get into that later, but essentially the kind of labeling that hospitals used to diagnose operations were longer than the Bible and we werent able to scrub them which resulted in us changing out hyptoheis to a much simpler one which was whether higher payments would mean a higehr medicare payment

So this is the MS-DRG which stands for Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups and as you can see there are thousands of different kinds of reference numbers for the operations all of these hospitals provided and also specialized hospitals also greatly changes averages since operations that are highly specific have a significant higher payment required which raises the average and kinda skews our data with extreme outliers that we cant really eliminate them.
