Option #3 Essay.
Through out my middle school and highschool years I have
always thought of myself as an individual that has performed above average
if the subject was in relation to academics. I've always thought of this as a true
fact in my point of view, but as this year came along I was proven wrong by one
of my teachers. From the beginning of my sophomore year up until now Mr Liu;
my precalcus teacher, has shown me that I needed to work much harder if I
wanted to succeed in his class. I was getting As in all of my classes without
putting in alot of effort, but his class was a different story. I eventually had to
mature and start putting in alot of effort in my academics if I still wanted to accel.
Mr Liu was a real inspiration for me, because he has taught me that
things are more deserved if I work really hard for them. This lesson cannot be
effectively taught by words, but rather by action. Mr Liu has literally forced me to
work harder by pushing me to my limits just so I can maintain a decent grade in
his class. Although I despise him alot of the time, I know he does it for my own
good, and I am really thankful that he does that. It took me a while to realise
how much of a great person he was, because at first I saw him as a nuisance,
but I realised how immature I was.
I learned that I was selfish, and I had only despised him because he
didn't give me what I wanted. I was very self centered, and I only wanted things
to go my way, but now I realise the world doesn't revolve around me, it revolves
around the effort I put in. Back then I had never even thought that I would see Mr
Liu as a role model, but now things have changed and I really look up to him as
a person and as a teacher. Getting As in classes were easy for me, and this built
up a mentality in my mind that I wouldn't have to work hard to get a good grade.
My arrogance had blinded me, and I eventually had to pay for it with a B in his
class for the first semester.
At this point I had a very strong feeling of hatred for Mr Liu, but through-
out the year I was maturing slowly. At first, I had still looked down upon him for
giving me a C on my very first test of the 2nd semester. But once I started putting
effort into his class, I realised that I was at fault for that grade, because I was
putting very little effort into succeeding in that class, and I expected a good grade
to come to me. Once the effort came in, the class had became easier for me,
and I am currently maintaining an A in his classroom. Mr Liu has prepared me for
my future classes and taught me that I just need to put in some effort if I want
something to go my way.
Mr Liu had even given me words of encouragement the first semester
of school, but I was just too arrogant to listen to his advice. Even then, he had still
continued to attempt to give me more advice in his classroom. He had tried
everything he could in his power to try to get me to work harder, but being the
self-centered person I was, I just wouldn't listen to him. This is another reason why
I envy my Liu, because even though I was ungrateful that he was putting in effort to
help me, he still continued to do so. I have actually grown more fond of him after
looking back at all the times he had tried to help me.
Even though I see Mr Liu as a big inspiration at my school, alot of people
do not, because they have not matured mentally enough yet. Most of his students
are failing his class, because they don't put in the effort required to even pass the
class. I feel really aggravated, due to students not appreciating him as much as
they should, but I really do sound like a hypocrite, because I had despised him
at a point in my life too. Everyone blames him for being a bad teacher, and accuse
him of not teaching the class like he's supposed to, but I see that as an excuse
students are using just because they are failing his class.
Normally this should not seem like a problem, but this has gotten so out
of hand that Mr Liu has a very bad reputation at Andrew Hill High. People make
excuses so much, that the staff of Andrew Hill even view Mr Liu as a bad teacher
at the school now. I pity Mr Liu to no extents, becuase he is man that does not
deserve this kind of treatment. He helps students out as much as he can, and
students are just too immature to realise that. His class has prepared me for
my upcoming classes, because my mentality will always set my standards for
other classes to his class's standards, which will almost guarantee me a perfect
grade in any class I take.
Mr Liu is a very encouraging and kind teacher, and he has the ability to
connect to his students if he wants to. He has changed my study habits and life
habits so much, which is a huge benefit for me. Words cannot really explain the
gratitude I have for him. I hope that one day most of Andrew Hill's students will
open their eyes and look at Mr Liu from my perspective, because he is a very
inspirational person that I would like to see in my life in the near future. He has
changed me so much mentally, and I feel like I've matured now. That is why
Mr Liu is a great inspiration to me.
