Your presentation must include each of the following items:
What the career is:
This includes a description of the career itself, skills or tasks that one performs in this career, and any additional information that you feel is relevant to this area.
Educational/Training requirements:
What level of schooling is necessary? What college majors generally lead to your career?
What types of organizations would it be helpful to volunteer or intern to gain valuable experience?
Are there any special tests or exams? (Examples: teachers need to pass Praxis Level 1 and Praxis Level 2 exams; truck drivers need to have special driver’s licenses)
Salary/Earnings/Benefits:
Includes vacation time, medical benefits, retirement plans, flexible hours, annual pay increases…
A Typical Day in the Life:
A description or list of tasks that one would perform in a typical day.
Use the internet or other resources to research the job you want to do to answer the questions above. A great place to start is the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. Use the “Occupational Groups” categories along the left to find the job you are looking for. However, you should also consult other resources as well. Some examples could be:
Looking at reputable newspapers and magazines (i.e. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, etc.)
Researching famous people in those professions and looking at their career path
