Injustice vs. Misfortune : disproportionately harms people who are poor, climate change side effects are NOT a misfortune
There is an adaptation gap, education gap, humanitarian aid response gap, transparency gap, health access gap, energy access gap, planning gap, responsibility gap
people who cause harm try to make it pass as an misfortune. they have more power than those who are already vulnerable
The poor suffers the most when disaster strikes
Climate change is a threat multiplier: makes existing conflict worse
Example: syrian war: influx of people coming into cities bc they cant adapt to the heat, public anger to government from lack of action
20 million migrants each year bc of climate
climate change demands responsibility to remediate the urgent impacts of climate change on the poor, and mitigate the future effects
Latin American living laboratories
Public health is much more effective in instigating action
Public health can be a lever for social change
Importance of realism: ethics must be strategic, must be willing to stray off the ideal path
Need to learn how to speak to politicians and shifting the way we communicate
Concrete and relevant effects on people's lives-> more receptive to climate friendly policy
People change their mind then behavior

Start with impact
End with action
More action when it's done collaboratively
From duty -> to prudence
