Inspiration - When air moves into the lungs
Expiration: when air moves out of the lungs
Intrapulmonary Pressure: The pressure in the alveoli
Intrapleural Pressure: The pressure in the thoracic cavity, always negative
Anatomic Dead Space: Everything that isn't your alveoli, where the air doesn't go through gas exchange; 150ml of air
Tidal Volume: Your resting breath rate, usually 500ml
Respiratory Rate: How many breaths per minute, usually 10-12
Respiratory Minute volume: How much air you breathed in a minute, usually 6 litres
Alveolar Ventilation Rate: How much air moves and has gas exchange happen in alveoli, usually 350 ml, RMV-Anatomical dead space
Expiratory Reserve Volume: The maximum amount of air that you can breathe out forcefully after a normal inspiration,
Residual Volume: The amount of air that stays in your lungs after ERV.
Inspiratory Reserve volume: the maximum amount of air that you can inhale after a normal respiration
Inspiratory Capacity: The amount of air that you can inhale, your tidal volume+IRV
Functional Residual Capacity: The amount of air that is left in your lungs after inspiration, ERV+RV
Vital Capacity: The amount of air that you inhale or exhale at any point in time, ERV+IC
Total Lung Volume: The amount of air that you can contain within your lungs, VC+RV
Forced Vital Capacity: The amount of air exhaled when you take in as much air as you can.
